About Me

Kia ora and konnichiwa!

I grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand, where my two greatest passions—aside from sitting under the pōhutukawa tree—were painting and skateboarding. I graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Auckland University of Technology.

These days, I live in Tokyo, Japan, with my wife and our young son. I work as a freelance illustrator and author, and also in the education industry as a teacher and content creator. For nearly a decade, I’ve been involved in writing, illustrating, designing, and animating in-house English language textbooks and bilingual storybooks for a Japanese education company.

In 2024, my picture book The Pōhutukawa Christmas Tree was published by the lovely folks at Bateman Books in New Zealand. It became a Top Ten New Zealand bestseller in the YA and Children’s Books category for several weeks. I’ve also illustrated for self-published authors and taken on a variety of creative commissions, including flyers, T-shirt designs, and custom artwork.

Much of my personal work is inspired by my son’s early experiences and the kinds of stories I want to share with him. I’m especially drawn to creating illustrations that feel warm, playful, and evoke quiet moments of reflection and wonder.
